Basic Rules of Any Meaningful Dialog
1) Must be about something - must have a topic.
2) All must regard others seriously - it's worth to listen to them.
3) All must understand what others are talking about.
4) All must agree they are all talking about the same thing.
There are two basic types of dialogs:
1) dialog with an aim - to persuade, to manipulate, to force..
2) real dialog, meeting in it - speakers are opening themself to objections and critics. Such a dialog doesn't have pre-assigned aim. Can be either gossip or scientific debate. Its absence of an aim can lead it to something new.
